Helpful to know

Before we begin.

If KDP is free, what am I paying Royalty Pilots for?

Your fee covers the people, time, and coordination involved in helping your book move to your own Amazon KDP account. Depending on your project, that can include contacting your previous publisher, requesting delisting and available files, preparing your manuscript and cover, organizing book details, and guiding account setup and submission.

We agree on the scope and price before work begins, so you understand what we will handle. You get practical help with the follow-ups and technical steps, while keeping control of your publishing account. Amazon KDP itself is free to use, and Royalty Pilots does not take a share of your royalties.

Can I move a book from another publishing company?

Generally, yes—if you hold the necessary publishing rights or those rights have reverted to you. A non-exclusive agreement may allow you to publish elsewhere, but paying a publishing company does not automatically make your contract non-exclusive. We start by identifying the agreement, files, and rights documentation needed for your move to Amazon KDP.

We contact your previous provider to request delisting, available production files, and relevant release documentation. If the company is unresponsive or has closed, we help identify the distributor or other responsible party and escalate documented requests through the appropriate channels. We handle the follow-ups so you have support with a process that can be frustrating to manage alone.

The next steps depend on your agreement and the responses received. ISBNs identify specific editions; they do not confer copyright, and a new ISBN may be needed for your new edition. We help you establish what is required before preparing your KDP submission.
